In the post globalized environment that we live in today, the state of our evolution is faced with a crisis. Economic and political factors have outdated previous notions of labor. The handyman and miner are artifacts of the past that for many of the young generation are purely figments of an alternate reality. This sculptural installation presents handcrafted modules each 50 cm long by 3cm by 4cm. In total there is nearly 2km’s of material cut down to these modular unit. While in spirit they are identical the reality is they are not. Through processes of collaboration, outsourcing of labor, and inventive allocation of material, the standard of the module invariably collapses. Such was the doom of mechanized mass production. The ideals were to create that module over and over to enhance our consumer based lives. In fact, a global population challenged by ecologically minded mitigation strategies defines our dilemma. Sustainability cannot succeed in hand with consumerism. Here the sculptural installation evokes DNA and other biological structures; structures that can scientifically and popularly be generalized but are in fact incredibly and infinitesimally unique. We all carry DNA signatures that can trace our common ancestors, yet the multiples of personality differences are beyond imagination. Including nurturing factors, the scale of individuality becomes an epic universal scale. On another level, the piece being made of wood components that have been charred by use of gas flame and situated in a post soviet romantic location further evoke notions of purpose in a forward looking post human Earth. What will remain? The Romans had their stone; our society is built on the unimaginable heavy use of natural resources, therefore what will be our legacy? Coal? Deforestation? Oil Spills? Nuclear Evacuated cities?
